Three Rivers College 2023 Athletic Hall of Fame
Don Crandell, Danny Foster, Chuck Malone, Mallory Siebert, and Anna Vogt are the 2023 inductees in Three Rivers College’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Located in the Libla Family Sports Complex, the Hall of Fame will be open for viewing during the basketball games at the annual Alumni Reunion on February 4.
The Hall of Fame can also be viewed during events at the Libla Family Sports Complex.
On February 4, the Three Rivers men’s and women’s basketball teams will play Moberly Area, with the women playing at 5 p.m. and the men playing at 7 p.m. Three Rivers College graduates and former students will receive free admission for these games as part of the 2023 Alumni Reunion.
“Three Rivers college has a long and storied history of excellence in intercollegiate athletics. The athletic programs provide opportunities for our student-athletes and fans of all ages to share and support a common goal,” said Dr. Wesley Payne, President of Three Rivers College. “We are proud to honor these individuals and their achievements.”
The College will host a banquet honoring the inductees on February 3 at the Holiday Inn in Poplar Bluff. Limited seating is available. Tickets are $60 per person. A reserved named table of 8 is $1,000. Advanced ticket purchase is required. Last day to purchase tickets is January 28. Don Crandell – Contributor
Don Crandell served as the president of the Three Rivers Booster Club for 19 years. During that time, the group had several major accomplishments, which are too numerous to mention, but highlights include:
Maintenance and remodeling of the athletic dorm.
The refinishing of the Gene Bess gym floor.
A trophy case provided for the lobby of the gymnasium.
Booster Club funding for a shooting machine, upgraded scoreboards, team chairs and storage racks, championship banners, new cheer team uniforms, softball and baseball batting machines, rodeo equipment, and a Rocky Raider mascot headpiece.
The introduction of reserved seating and parking.
The sponsorship and promotion of “Meet the Raiders,” “Midnight Madness,” the All-Star Game, and the recognition banquet.
Providing radio broadcasts of athletic events and the purchase of equipment.
Assisted in funding the Libla Family Sports Complex.
The initiation of Raider team reunions.
Don graduated from Salem High School in 1952 and lettered in fast-pitch softball, baseball, and basketball. He scored more than 1,000 points prior to the 3-point line.
He attended Central Methodist College, the University of Missouri, Washington University, and Saint Louis University. He holds a BS in Education, MS in education, and an Administration Certificate in Secondary Education.
He worked as a mathematics instructor, and varsity baseball and basketball coach at Mehlville High School in St. Louis County. He later was the Executive Vice President of First National Bank of Salem and President and CEO of Southern Missouri Bank. After retirement, he was an adjunct mathematics instructor at Three Rivers for many years.
Danny Foster – Men’s Basketball – 1976-78
Danny Foster was one of the best pure shooters in Three Rivers history. He set a school record of 604 field goals in his 70-game career, which was still first all-time when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
In 1978, he was named an NJCAA All-American. Under his leadership, the team finished third in the nation, which led to the retirement of his number 45.
During his sophomore season, he averaged 21.8 points per game, while making more than 82% of his free throws. In both seasons, he led the Raiders in free-throw percentage. At the time of his induction into the Hall of Fame, Danny was second all-time in scoring at Three Rivers, with 1,461 points for an average of 20.9 for his career.
After leaving Three Rivers, Danny went on to play basketball at Southeast Missouri State University. He is married to Linda, and they have two sons, Brian and Chris.
Chuck Malone – Baseball – 1984-86
Chuck Malone was described by many of his coaches as a “flame thrower.”
He pitched for the Raiders from 1984-86 and is among a handful of athletes to have played both baseball and basketball at Three Rivers. He is the only baseball player to have his number retired at Three Rivers and was also the first Three Rivers player to reach the major leagues.
Coming to Three Rivers from Marked Tree, Ark., he set a school record with 159 strikeouts in his career. At the time of his induction into the Hall of Fame, he ranked second in career strikeouts, fifth in career ERA with a 2.30, and ninth in single-season ERA with a 2.00.
Immediately following his time at Three Rivers, Chuck was drafted in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Phillies. He played professionally for six years and had a highlight season in 1988 when he had a 13-11 record. That year he split time between AA and AAA, striking out 155 batters in 154.2 innings pitched. On September 6, 1990, he made his major league debut with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Mallory Siebert – Softball – 2010-2012
Mallory Siebert graduated as one of the best hitters in Three Rivers history.
At the time of her induction into the Hall of Fame, Mallory was first in career hits with 188, first and third in single-season hits, first in single-season batting average with a .487 in 2011, and second in career batting average with a .456. She was also third all-time in stolen bases with 85, eighth in runs scored with 92, and 10th in doubles with 23.
In 2012, Mallory was selected to the Exemplary All-Academic Team. She was twice named to the MCCAC All-Conference team.
Mallory graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau. Following her career at Three Rivers, she continued to play at Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
Anna Vogt – Women’s Basketball – 2012-2014
Anna Vogt graduated as one of the most dominant post-players in Three Rivers history. At the time of her induction into the Hall of Fame, she ranked in the top 10 all-time in 13 statistical categories, and first all-time in career rebounds and rebounds per game.
During the 2013-2014 season, she averaged a double-double with 20.36 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game to finish second all-time in both categories. She graduated as the greatest rebounder in team history with school records of 516 career rebounds and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Anna showed success both on the court and in the classroom. She was an NJCAA third-team All-American and selected to the Exemplary All-Academic Team in 2014 and was a two-time selection to both the All-Region XVI and MCCAC All-Conference teams.
Following her career at Three Rivers, Anna continued her education and basketball career at Coastal Carolina University, where she was named Big South Conference Athlete of the Week in December 2014. She graduated from Arkansas State University in 2016.
